Motivation is the thing that helps us reach our goals. It keeps us going when everything is going wrong and there doesn’t seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel. But what happens when that fire inside stops burning and we lose our passion for a project? Are our business goals out of reach forever?
No, no and no again. If you feel as though you’ve lost your mojo and placed your business goals firmly on the backburner, don’t worry. There are plenty of simple and easy hacks you can use to relight your fire and recapture your motivation. Here are a few of our favourites.
1: Have fun
Lack of motivation and creativity can often be linked to routine. When we do the same things day in, day out, it’s hard to feel that spark of excitement that motivates us to keep pushing. If you’re stuck in a slump, go and have some fun! Think of an activity that makes you feel happy – whether it’s going to the trampolining centre with friends or meeting up with your best friend – and let your hair down. Having a good laugh is a great way to get motivated.
2: Take a step back
When was the last time you took a day off? If you’re guilty of checking and replying to work emails at all times of the night and day – stop it. A tired, overworked brain is an entrepreneur’s worst enemy.
3: Start the day as you mean to go on
Set yourself up for success and you’ll lay the foundations for a great day. Get to bed early, stretch or exercise first thing in the morning, and have a nutritious breakfast.
4: Spend less time with negative people
Negativity breeds negativity. If you’re feeling unmotivated, the last thing you need is a negative friend to hold you back and prevent you from bouncing back.
5: Remember the bigger picture
It’s natural to experience periods of self-doubt, especially as an entrepreneur. So, what’s the solution? Set up an inspiration board and pin motivational quotes and advice to it, alongside anything else that might motivate you to keep going. Whether that’s a picture of a fast car, home in a warmer climate or simply more family time – if it keeps you inspired, put it up.
6: Find a mentor
Being an entrepreneur can be lonely. A business mentor will be able to help guide you through your ups and downs and help to you stay motivated.
7: Set realistic goals
Remember the Cup of Tea Challenge we wrote about a few weeks ago? At Green Cloud, we find it help us to stay focused on our goals and not give up when progress seems slow. One of the best ways to stay motivated is to set realistic, achievable goals and reward yourself (and your team) for reaching them.
